🚨FLASH: Stripe and Microsoft Launch New Agentic Commerce Offering: Copilot Checkout
Launch partners include Etsy, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie
The First 2026 Prediction Falls (in 15mins)
Literally ~15 minutes after hitting ‘send’ on our 11 Predictions for Agentic Commerce in 2026, we have our first predicted move comes true - Microsoft Copilot now has a checkout capability and has moved to Level-3 ‘Buy’ after spending all of 2025 camped out in the Level-2 bucket→
The tea leaves were there…
We had an inkling something was up when invites for a Jan 27 webinar started going out talking about “Preparing for the rise of agentic commerce with Stripe and Microsoft”→
Details
Here’s what we know:
Today at 10am, Stripe and Microsoft announced the collaboration called Copilot Checkout.
This checkout is based on ACP, so, in theory, if you do the work for ChatGPT, you’ll now be able to add Microsoft Copilot as an Agentic Commerce partner.
Because of the ACP tie-in, it’s merchant-of-record
The release states that while Stripe is powering this, if a merchant wants to ‘bring their own PSP’ they can.
Instead of a merchant center powered by Copilot, it looks like Stripe is providing the back-end merchant center via their Agentic Commerce Suite
It’s not clear when this launches, it is not live that we can find today
It’s also not clear what happens to all the thousands of merchants sending their datafeeds to the Bing Shopping system and how these two different offerings will intermingle, if at all. Maybe there will be some interconnectivity between the existing Bing merchant center and the stripe Agentic Commerce Suite - seems unlikely as it’s a bit ‘apples to oranges and back’.
Stripe Provided Walk Through of the UX
Stripe provides a little highlight video and in there we can see what the user experience looks like:
Here the user has found a lamp by Contoso and checks out: (FYI Contoso is fictional)
Just like Instant Checkout, it’s quite clear that you are transacting with the merchant, Contoso, NOT Stripe or Microsoft Copilot.
Once you hit ‘Pay’ you see a processing annimation on the Pay button→
Finally, an order confirmation is returned with a link to the ‘view order details’→
That’s it for now
Stay tuned, we’ll be tracking this closely and will post a live video once we can find it in the wild. We expect to learn more about this at NRF as well.
